Managing Dialogue Interaction: A Multi-Layered Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present evidence for the importance of low-level phenomena in dialogue interaction and use this to motivate a multi-layered approach to dialogue processing. We describe an architecture that separates content-level communicative processes from interaction-level phenomena (such as feedback, grounding, turn-management), and provide details of specific implementations of a number of such phenomena.

Managing spoken dialogues for information services
This paper presents an approach to managing spoken dialogues in information services systems. We describe how the approach, based upon a tri{partite model of interaction , addresses the problems of co{operativeness and portability across languages and task domains. This approach has been implemented in the generic dialogue manager of the Sundial dialogue systems. We outline the capabilities of ...
متن کاملA Multidimensional Approach to Multimodal Dialogue Act Annotation
This paper investigates the benefits of multidimensional approaches to dialogue act annotation, and the advantages of using layered multidimensional ’open’ dialogue act taxonomies. We performed a comparative analysis of a one-dimensional and two multidimensional dialogue act annotation schemes, and concluded that not only does a multidimensional approach support a more accurate analysis of huma...

متن کاملIdeas on Multi-layer Dialogue Management for Multi-party, Multi-conversation, Multi-modal Communication
Most current dialogue systems concern only a short dialogue between a single system and single user, focused on a single task. On the other hand, the full spectrum of communication between interacting agents includes cases in which multiple segments of conversation can be interleaved with other, sometimes unrelated actions and events (e.g., a cocktail party). Language use in the Mission Rehears...
متن کاملBehaviors and Layers in Spoken Dialogue Systems
The classical view of artificial intelligence (AI) is tied down by a number of problems. These problems indicate that it might be fruitful to approach AI applications, including spoken dialogue systems, in an alternative way. This paper overviews current attempts to apply the idea of layered behavior-based architectures in dialogue system development. It is concluded that there are both theoret...
